Character Under Construction

Have you ever done a full or even partial remodel of your church or house? I can tell you from experience, it’s a chore! It takes so much longer than we expect it to. And, it’s really messy until the work is done. Then we can step back and appreciate everything that it took. Can you guess what’s even more tedious and trying? How about when the Lord is at work to remodel our character? The process is both harder and longer. I had a mom of youngsters recently say, “I told my child that Jesus didn’t die on the cross for you to live with that kind of attitude!” But isn’t it part of the reason Jesus “set His mind like flint” (Isaiah 50:6,7 & Luke 9:51) in going to Jerusalem that one last time? Wasn’t He fully determined to pay the debt of our sins and transform us into His image? On the Sundays in Lent this year, we are turning to the Holy Spirit to renew us, inside and out. Not only will our buildings and grounds at Trinity be “under construction,” so will our character and behavior.
