Perhaps nothing is easier or more natural than putting ourselves first, or living for the moment.  But just because it comes easily, does that mean it's right?  As long as God is holy, there will be right and wrong.  So how do we know what's what?   How can we be sure that our thoughts, words and actions are pleasing to God?
