Excellent Agony
Series: Epiphany: Wise Men Still Seek Him Topic: Faith Passage: Psalm 71:15–24, Acts 16:1–5, 1 Timothy 6:11–16, Matthew 24:24–27
There is really only one calling for any and all pastors: "Preach the Word", the Apostle Paul wrote to a young pastor (1 Timothy 4:2). Yes, we share today, on a special day remembering Timothy, many other facets of the church's public ministry -- the definition of the pastoral office, tasks in pastoral ministry, qualifications for pastors. But the one calling all of us have really is to echo to others the message of salvation in Christ that we receive from Him. That's the meaning of "confess" - literally to "speak with". We don't need to develop the message ourselves. We don't need clever training or techniques. In your life by what you say and do, simply preach HIS Word!
