Suffering Servant(s) - Traditional Service

Pastor: John Scheusner Series: Grace and Grit: A Series on Suffering

Although the Church in America is not experiencing the same persecution as the Church in the first century, the struggle of being “subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution,” is definitely an issue that we deal with. While we are blessed to live in country that historically looks fondly on and has the freedom of religion, especially Christianity, we can also become entitled to blessings that are not promises of the faith. As Christians, we are not promised to live lives free from hatred and persecution. We are not promised freedom to worship when, where, and how we want. And we are not promised to like or even agree with every leader that is placed over us. However, we are still called to use our Christian freedom to live as servants of God by honoring all people. And even if we then suffer as servants by our leaders or for the sake of our faith, we are called to endure just endured and became our Suffering Servant.

 Scriptures

o Isaiah 53 – [B]y his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities.

o 1 Peter 2:13-21 – Live as people who are free… as servants of God. Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.

o John 10:1-10 – I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture.
