In the covenant with Noah God promises not to destroy the earth again, even as the inclination of the human heart is evil from birth (Genesis 6:5, 8:21). The covenant calls humankind away from murder/manslaughter (every human life is precious and to be avenged), idolatry (implied by parties of covenant), fornication (implied by command to be fruitful), and lifeblood. Our hope cannot be in our hearts, but only in gospel (Mark 1:14-15). Even following baptism, the evil of the human heart must be resisted and repented of.
