Perspective for Power

July 4, 2021 Series: Pentacost

Passage: Ezekiel 2:1–5, 2 Corinthians 12:1–10, Mark 6:1–13

This month’s worship series “Life in This Pentecostal Church” has shared the work of the Holy Spirit in the appointed “Epistle” each Sunday, a near-continuous reading of 2 Corinthians.  Often this continuous reading does not connect much with the other appointed Scriptures – the “Psalm” and the “Reading” and the “Holy Gospel”.  But in this final week of the series there is a connection!  Ezekiel 2 and Jesus in Mark 6 both emphasize how “rejection” of our witness to our saving God actually should be expected, yet how this rejection actually proves our faithfulness – indeed God’s faithfulness!  Yes, we are tempted (especially in our decaying American culture) to scream the words of Psalm 123:4:  “Our soul has had more than enough of the contempt of the proud!”  But can you yell the words of the Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 12? . . .  “I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities” and even “I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses!”  How?  Why?
