Where does authority come from? Power and might? Learning and intellect? Persuasion and popularity? Jesus’ parable simply underscores the depth of the resistance of the chief priests and elders, who neither profess obedience nor take action. The One with all authority (Matthew 28) continually and patiently bids us to abandon our rebellious ways, and with humility to repent and believe, that we might have life.
