Where Israel has failed to keep God’s Law, Jesus succeeds. He fulfills the Law as the New Israel. When we read the story of Jesus’ temptation, we realize that we consume the bread of this world’s satisfaction. We commit idolatry in order to tap into this world’s power. And we test the Lord by trying to manipulate his Word for our advantage. When we call upon his name, we repent of our failures and confess Jesus to be the fulfillment of God’s Law. For us and our salvation.
