Paul and Timothy

October 2, 2022 Pastor: John Scheusner Series: From Generation to Generation

Passage: Psalm 62:1–12, 2 Timothy 1:1–14

The Apostle Paul exhorts Timothy in his faith. It’s three generations deep. He’s been called to ministry by the laying on of hands. He is called to serve in power, love, and self-discipline, not in timidity or fear. Opportunities for repentance: Failure to pass down the faith from one generation to the next. Timidity over the good news of Jesus Christ, particularly in the face of suffering or scorn. Receiving the Gospel: Verse 9: “He has saved us and called us to a holy life – not because of anything we have done, but because of his own purpose and grace.”

How are we passing down the faith to our children and grandchildren? How are we witnessing to the good news of Jesus through the love of God, through the power of God, and in our own self-discipline? These character qualities are God’s purpose for us, given by his grace.
