Righteousness and Peace Kiss

July 11, 2021 Series: Psalms

Topic: Faith Passage: Amos 7:7–15, Ephesians 1:3–14, Mark 6:14–29

The long Pentecost Season is now in its second phase – see the “WOW” later in this bulletin.  It opened with a few weeks emphasizing the work of the Holy Spirit.  But now, after June 24 (the calendar day we remember John the Baptizer), our worship themes focus more on “repentance” – seeing our damnable evil and being turned to God’s answer of grace in Christ.  Both last Sunday and today we’re hearing how opposition to God’s Truth is mounted by His enemies:  The prophet Amos is confronted in his ministry.  John the Baptizer is beheaded!  But God’s message to us in the midst of so much sin is the beautiful line from Psalm 85:10:  In our Savior Jesus, God’s “steadfast love and faithfulness meet.  Righteousness and peace kiss!”
