November 5, 2023 Pastor: John Scheusner Series: Ultimate Authority: Leaders, Laws, Corruption, and Grace

“Do as I say, not as I do…” This is a phrase that is often used with parents and children. It is also a phrase that can be used for governments and leaderships all around the world. It seems like the rules that are made apply to everyone except for those who made them. Jesus also has something to say regarding this too! Rather than asking if God can use earthly authorities who are corrupt, our Gospel reading this morning tells how God will use anyone to achieve His will. Even leaders who don’t follow their own rules. The truth is that all of us are corrupt, even the leaders. No one is the perfect authority. Only Christ. That is why our One Instructor gives us grace. Just as He gives us grace, do we give grace to our leaders who need it just as much as we do?
